about emergencies at 19 Wimpole Street Dental Practice

If you have pain, bleeding or swelling, it could be a dental emergency. If in doubt, contact our Marylebone dental practice or use the NHS 111 service. Typical emergency cases include:

  • Toothache and sensitivity
  • Broken, loose or missing teeth or fillings
  • Decay and abscesses
  • Damaged dental appliances (such as braces, bridges or crowns)

In most emergency cases, the role of the dentist is to help ‘secure’ the patient. This means we do everything we can to manage any pain and bleeding. We can then either book you in for a follow-up to treat the problem (such as making a new crown for you, if yours is broken or lost), or refer you to a medical specialist (such as if you have a broken jaw).

As soon as possible – quick treatment can help prevent further complications.

During office hours, please call the practice on 020 7580 2720.
Out of hours, either call the practice and leave a message, or call 07989 580250.

Our emergency dentist fees start at £100. The price of the procedure will be determined after the initial emergency examination.

Yes, with quick action, it’s possible, though this is usually only within an hour of losing the tooth. The Oral Health Foundation recommends:

  • If you’re bleeding, bite down on a handkerchief placed in the socket. Avoid taking aspirin, which can worsen the bleeding.
  • Rinse the tooth with milk or tap water.
  • Reinsert it if you can, and bite down on the handkerchief again. You will still need to see your dentist.
  • If you can’t reinsert the tooth, pop it in some milk. Never try to reinsert a tooth which has been damaged or is broken.
  • Your dentist can take X-rays to check the tooth has re-implanted properly. In the case of a lost tooth (or teeth), a dental appliance such as a denture, bridge or implant may be recommended.
